Fotona 4D
Fotona 4D is a multi-step laser protocol using Nd:YAG and Er:YAG wavelengths; check which steps are actually part of your plan.
How it works
Fotona 4D is a protocol delivered with lasers from Fotona that combine Nd:YAG at 1064 nm and Er:YAG at 2940 nm wavelengths. Different steps are intended to work on different layers: some warm deeper tissue, while others act on the surface or inside the mouth. The overall aim is to support collagen remodeling and skin quality. Not every clinic performs every step.
Good to know
- Ask which of the protocol's steps are included in your session and which are not.
- Confirm which handpieces and wavelengths will be used.
- Clarify the number of sessions and the interval between them.
- Warmth, redness, and swelling are expected for a short time; blisters, pigment changes, and burns are uncommon but recognized.
Checking a Fotona 4D treatment before you book
Because 4D is a protocol, not a single pass, two clinics may offer quite different sessions under the same name. The most useful question is simply which steps, in what order, and how long each lasts.
Ask whether the same laser platform is used for other treatments you are considering, such as fractional resurfacing, and how settings differ. A clear answer suggests the operator understands the platform well.
Fotona 4D: common questions
Does every Fotona 4D session include the same steps?
Not necessarily. Ask for the step list so you can compare proposals fairly.
Is it suitable for darker skin tones?
It depends on the wavelength, settings, and the doctor's assessment. Raise your skin type and any pigment history in advance.
Is there downtime?
Usually little, though redness or warmth may last a few hours. Deeper steps can take longer to settle.
