Ultherapy
Ultherapy is a focused-ultrasound system from Merz Aesthetics that pairs treatment with live imaging; this page covers what to verify before you book.
How it works
Ultherapy delivers high-intensity focused ultrasound to small, precise points beneath the skin surface. The energy forms tiny thermal zones at set depths, and the body responds by remodeling tissue over the following weeks. A distinguishing feature is the imaging screen, which lets the operator view the tissue layers before delivering energy. Results, where they occur, tend to appear gradually and vary by person.
Good to know
- The transducer cartridge has a defined number of lines and a specific depth; ask which depth and how many lines are planned for your face or neck.
- Imaging is a real feature of this system, so a clinic offering it should be able to explain what the screen shows.
- Bone, thin skin, and areas with implants or fillers need the operator's judgment about where to avoid or adjust.
- Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, and rarely numbness or bruising are recognized effects.
Checking a Ultherapy treatment before you book
Because this device is sold under a well-known brand, the name appears on many menus, and some clinics use it loosely for any ultrasound lifting. Ask the coordinator to confirm the exact system and generation, and ask whether the cartridge is opened in front of you.
A careful operator will explain why each depth is chosen, how many lines are planned per area, and what discomfort to expect. Hurry or vague counts are a cue to ask more, or to compare another clinic.
Ultherapy: common questions
Can I ask to see the cartridge before treatment?
Yes. Many clinics are accustomed to this request, and a sealed package or an on-screen line count lets you confirm the plan matches what you discussed.
Is every ultrasound lift an Ultherapy treatment?
No. Several other focused-ultrasound devices exist, and they differ in imaging, depth, and applicators. Ask which system is being used.
Who is a poor candidate?
People who are pregnant, have active skin infection in the area, or have certain metal implants may be advised against it. The doctor decides after examining you.
